I first met Luanne when she joined the (then) Berkeley League in the late 1970s. She was working for Council Member John Denton at the time and became the chair of our Education Committee. I remember years of evening unit meetings at Barbara Nelson’s where Luanne’s delightful humorous guidance as Discussion Leader led us though the thorny topics of National, State and local League Studies. By then Luanne was single and working full-time. In the early 1 990s our League held several successful auctions. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Scott of Wallowa were honored Saturday, October 24, 1971, at Wallowa Christian Church with a reception celebrating their Golden Wedding anniversary. Attended by 180 friends and relatives, the reception was sponsored by their children, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zielke, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Scott and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Scott. The beautiful four-tiered gold and white cake was baked and decorated by Mr. and Mrs. Martin Neyman of Hermiston. Serving the cake were: Mrs. Ercell Richman, Troy; Mrs. Alex Dawson, Portland; Mrs. Martin Neyman, Hermiston; Mrs. Beryl Brown, Alturas. Calif.: and Mrs. Gary Johnson of Wallowa. Pouring were: Mrs. Darrell Scott and Mrs. Jim Hayes of Enterprise; Mrs. Wynn Finley, Rosalia, Wash.; Mrs. Dan Finley, Milton-Freewater; Mrs. Marion McCrae, Wallowa and Mrs. Roy Daggett, Joseph. Over 100 guests attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Ercell Richman of Troy, Oregon, on June 10, 1978 at the Wallowa Christian Church. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zielke of Hermiston and Mr. and Mrs. Don Scott of Wallowa hosted the reception. The dining room was decorated with flowers and lace cloths. A gold card tree, a gift made by brother-in-law Alex Dawson of Portland, stood with flowers near the entry. The serving table was covered in gold with white lace. Gold candles in bowls of white and gold flowers flanked the 3-tiered cake, baked and decorated by Mr. and Mrs. Martin Neyman of Hermiston. A gold pompon of net topped the crystal goblet on the top layer, and long streamers of gold satin ribbon draped to the table. Lemonade punch, coffee, nuts and gold and white flower mints were served with the cake. Many friends and relatives shared in serving and the afternoon was spent in renewing acquaintances.
