My name is Judi Boyd
and I started this site.
This site was created using MyHeritage.com. This is a great system that allows anyone like you and me to create a private site for their family, build their family tree and share family photos.
The credit for my family history is by no means mine alone. I am grateful to my Great Uncle Cliff who was instrumental in getting me interested in my family history in my pre teen years. He provided the basis of information that enabled me to get started, along with copies of photos, access to books, local history and other bits of history. With the advent of the internet and the easier availability of official records, this has been a truly adventurous journey back in time.
There have also been other family members over the years who have provided me with information, including newspaper articles, records and photos. Without this joint effort, and a desire to want to help me, this may not have been possible for me. This adventure has also reinforced the meaning of coming full circle. I have found it ironical that much of our family includes Australia and how this link came about. My earliest memory of Family research was being told that we did come via Australia with one family member possibly “jumping ship” in Adelaide. To find that 2 family members actually graced the Australian shores as supposed “convicts” was met with some fascination – only because one then wonders if we really knew the context of our arrival on NZ shores. To also coin a phrase from an ancestry.com advertisement, “Funny, no-one ever told me about that.....”.
It was assumed in the 1800’s that many did migrate in order to try and better their lives or at least try and make something more them. As families back then were traditionally quite large, by the time you got down the pecking order, there was no chance of any family inheritance left for the younger members of the family. Others took up the opportunity of job availabilities in new lands as they had “work experience” behind them and probably saw it as an adventure. I wonder if they ever knew that they were making history in more ways than one.
This brief history is only a glimpse at the people I have in my Family Tree (6093 people and includes my husband’s family). Family is described in the dictionary as “those who can trace their descent from a common ancestor, a house, kindred, lineage”. I have come in contact many people over the years who fit this criteria but are so removed that some probably would not even consider the fact that they are family. It has been interesting to see how and where the different family lines have journeyed. Family History is never done – it goes on and on and on................
If anyone has facts, figures or can correct any information, I am grateful for that advice. I do not profess or claim that all or any of my information is fact. I have only stated the facts as I have found them and much is also based on the information included in Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates I have sourced from the relevant authorities. I hope that members of my family who do get access to this will continue on so that our families in years to come have a real living history of who they are and whence they came.
