Bernice Strauss not only set a record at the Closber Public Library for 25 years of continuous volunteer service. Her dedication was recognized by IBM, which donated four electronic typewriters to the library in her name.
In 1965,when there was no children’s librarian, the Cluster woman helped form and run a pre-schooì group at the library. Over the years, the library expanded and added staff members. Today, Strauss works behind the front desk, answering questions, checking books in and out, and handling routine business.
The new equipment replaces two manual typewriters and two vintage electric models: “We had to put in a request and give a financlal statement,” Strauss said. “Much to our surprise, we got all four typewriters.”
