this is what i am writing is heard from old one.

there was demon who lived in a forest in first age of sat yuga.his name was gandhir and never allow anyone to enter in the forest .one day yamraj want to pass from the forest.gandhir fight with the yamraj and send him back to mirtyu lok.yamraj ji went to bhagwan vishnoo and said what happened,he, vishnoo ji made him snake and said when ramchandra ji will come to search sita if you give him some help he will make you back. after that when ramji going from the forest unknownly he stepped that snake ,gandhir he riplied hey ram .ram chandra ji noticed his voice and make him human again.
