Earnest was a very nice quiet man. I lived with him and his wife Edna for 2 or 3 years when I was young. I don't think I ever say him get upset. He was a very hard worked and a wonderful man. I remember his daughter inlaw would bring his son Lawrence over early every morning to meet and go to work. Myrtle would have a bacon sandwich with Edna and I every morning with her coffee. Almost every time I smell bacon I think of those mornings..
Ernest and his son Lawrence were carpenters for Department stores in Richmond, Va from around the middle to late 1950s. as well as farming. On June 10,1968 the day I graduated from C.T.Smith High School, Earnest was hit by a car while triming a ditch and died instantly. Later Lawrence and his wife Myrtle moved to Henrico County off of Wilkerson Rd. and continued to do carpenter work for stores and Hospitals. In fact Lawrence had a heart attach out side of St Lukes hospital while working. It was a while before someone found him but he survived and continued to work.
