FAMILY REUNION…..100 years

2013 marks the 100th year of family gatherings for the descendants of Josiah McIntosh, Sr.

In June 1913, Josiah McIntosh, Jr., known as Joe, caring for his 102 year old Father, Josiah McIntosh, Sr., conceived the idea of a "family gathering". Josiah Sr., being a former slave, had seen families destroyed, split up and denied the opportunity of being together. He constantly emphasized to Joe Jr., the importance of family knowing and supporting one another. This emphasis encouraged Joe Jr,. and his wife, Mattie Ruffin McIntosh to call his and her siblings, their families; 14 of their children (some grown-up) and their families to their home in Jefferson, Texas to share in a feast and fellowship. This feast and fellowship began a celebration that has continued for 100 years for the Joe Jr., clan and some of the clan of his siblings.

This year, 2013, the Joe Jr., clan, as our ancestors did that first gathering in 1913, is calling together as "one big family" all descendants of Josiah McIntosh, Sr.

Josiah McIntosh, Sr(our relative on the mule) lived with and stressed to his son Josiah McIntosh, Jr., the importance of family coming together. Josiah Jr., called together his siblings, their spouses/children and the community to plan for this "big" gathering. In 1913 the Reunion took place.

Announcements:Anniversary

Happy Anniversary Niq Niq!

10 years ago (1/30) I married the man of my dreams. The one who completed me. The one who stepped in and stepped up and took care of me and mines. And who actually took a lot of slack for doing so. Yet LOVE conquered all that we've been through over the years as a couple. Not only am I happy but proud to say when we made that commitment to be faithful partners in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, in joy as well as in sorrow. The promise to love unconditionally, to support each others goals, to honor and respect, to laugh with and cry with , and to cherish each other for as long as we both shall live. We've remained true to it ALL~ HAPPY ANNIVERSARY "Moto-Moto"! HOT-HOT!!!

Announcements:99th Family Reunion
Posted by: Virnelda Lewis on June 19 2012 09:54

June 4, 2012

Men of the McIntosh Family,

We’re approaching the 99th Annual McIntosh-Ruffin Family Reunion. We the Houston McIntosh-Ruffin Family Reunion Planning Committee ask that each of you (the men) share in the underwriting of the Reunion . Each of you is asked to give $100.00. The combined monies will be used for our three day celebration…..

·Friday Night Meet/Greet;

·Saturday’s Reunion Picnic;

·Sunday’s Fish Fry;

·Materials & equipment for activities and rental of the facilities.

Our goal is that monies received will:

1.cover all expenses;

2.allow each McIntosh-Ruffin Family Member to attend

the reunion without any additional financial burden.

The money is needed by July 1, 2012. This date will allow an ample amount of time for final preparations.

The accomplishing of our goal and the success of our 2012 Reunion is dependent upon you! It is important that we hear from you.

We are hoping for 100% cooperation/participation because initial planning for our “Centennial Reunion—2013” begins here!

Thanking you in Advance,

The Houston McIntosh-Ruffin Family Reunion Planning Committee
