My name is Mary Rudd
and I started this site. It is a simpler version of the full Pistorius RSA site and relates only to the descendants of the five brothers who came to South Africa from Germany in 1838. I hope this makes it easier to find our South African relations. I would suggest that you move your membership from the Pistorius RSA Plus to Pistorius RSA Five Brothers as this will allow you to find the relationship between you and other South African Pistorius. Due to the size of the original site that facility was no longer available. I have tried to move across the photographs and welcome new photographs onto the site. I would also like to find and fix the loose threads, and to include interesting information that relates to our South African family.
Thank you for visiting our Pistorius family online tree. The initial paper tree was collated by my parents David and Jean Pistorius in the 1970's. They wrote over a hundred and eighty letters and sent them to all the Pistorius members they could find from telephone books around the country. Each letter had a data sheet enclosed so that people could respond and hopefully put down as much information as possible. The "finished" tree was printed and sent to as many of the members as possible, along with a typed history of the first five Pistorius brothers who emigrated to South Africa. The history can be found here http://www.buster.co.za/tree/dpnote.htm and in it my Dad thanks those who helped so wonderfully:- Mr. J.J. (Koos) Pistorius of Sinoville; the late Mrs. Fanny Alicia Pistorus of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe; Mr. Egbert Dennis Pistorius; Mr. Ronald Arthur Pistorius; Mr. Frederik Cornelius (Fritz) of Kadoma, Zimbabwe who is unfortunately very ill, but who is the "heir", in the direct line, of Friedrich Heinrich Pistorius, our original common ancestor. I would like to add in Buster (Robin Ledgerton Pistorius) who first put the tree and history online - without the help of a genealogical programme, and Scrooby (Frans Johannes Pistorius) who used a genealogical programme (geni) to put the tree initially online. If you have any comments or feedback about this site, please click here to contact me. Our family tree is posted online on this site! There are 2727 names in our family site. The earliest event is the birth of Wilhelm August Pistorius
(Sep 25 1750). The most recent event is the birth of <Private> Pistorius
(Jan 19 2012). The site was last updated on May 27 2012, and it currently has 743 registered member(s). If you wish to become a member too, please click here. Enjoy!

In 1979 when I toured Europe with my backpack, my father (Theodor Georg Jozef) told me about our links to the city of Pistoia in Italy, and that some of the Pistorius ancestors are buried in the walls of the cathedral. I have also read about an excellent art gallery in the Councelor's building next to the cathedral. When I arrived at the building it was unfortunately closed for renovations. Fortunately I stumbled upon the overseer of the building who couldn't speak English well, but good German. Having worked in Germany, my German was still good. When I showed him my surname on my passport, his eyes lighted up and became very enthusiastic to show me around. He unlocked the art gallery and afterwards took me to the cathedral where he showed me the graves of a Pistorium and Pistoriun and their sons who were Roman Catholic Cardinals. He explained to me that their offspring experienced problems with the Medici rulers and emigrated to Prussia. Before taking the train back to Florenc...
Riana behoeftes te leer ken as chroniese ITP gediagnoseer is, in ander Pistorius families. Familie geval sou 'n genetiese vatbaarheid vir ITP moontlik maak.
Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is the condition of having an abnormally low platelet count of no known cause. Symptoms, such as purpura(large bruises), or more seriously, an unusual susceptibility to bleeding. This chronic condition has been diagnosed in the daughter of Adriaan Willem and Riana (Hester Regina) Pistorius. Riana needs to know if chronic ITP has been diagnosed in other Pistorius families. Familial cases would make a genetic susceptibility for ITP possible.
It is wonderful to have all the photographs coming in, and I am going to ask you to sort them. First, make an album with your family's name and put the pictures in there with as many tagged with names as possible. Then also add them to the generic family picture album. The slideshow of photographs just above this article will then show all Pistorius in random order. But on the Photos and Videos page we can choose to look at specific family albums.
Also right at the bottom of the page is a tag for News articles - please make use of this by clicking on it and then choosing the correct category - Babies, Family memories (past history), Family stories (present history), Obituaries or Announcements are probably the best headings. Please leave Important for me to use.
Thanks to Riana (Hester Regina Steyn Pistorius) widow of Adriaan Willem (1949-1993) we know have her family attached to the Georg Friederik Theodor branch. Who can help with the other 9 "South Afric...
Thank you to everyone for their patience as there have been some glitches in getting all people to hear about the new site. I hope you find it easier to work with just our South African family. The Five Brothers tree focuses on the five branches of our Pistorius family.
A few important details: If you do not want to receive the emails then at the bottom of the email click on the link to stop and it will take you to a settings page where you can choose what you do want to receive.
If you want to not be a member of the bigger Pistorius RSA Plus any more, then let me know and I can take your name off the website.
If you add in a photograph, please tag it with a name wherever possible so that we can learn who is who.
And please help to find out and fill in those details which are still missing - I have about 10 branches still not linked in. The head of the family is called South African Unknown and perhaps you could go and look and help me.
Finally, thank you all for helping to make our family tree and full and interesting as it is.
