My contact tells me that William was either engaged or certainly keeping company with Polly Davis. However William died at the age of 22 and was buried at Rhosymedre. He died on 22 April, 1883. A W Davies was the son of this couple. I was sent a clipping out of a newspaper which I will quote.
Charged the Guns Sergeant Arthur William Davies, of the 1st Royal Tank Regiment was in charge of light tank on which one of the deadly German 88mm guns was firing.
Davies went straight at it, sending the crew running for cover. While completing its destruction he spotted another 88 some 50 yard away about to open fire. This he promptly charged too and scattered the gunners. Davies, who is 25, a grocer's assistant in peace-time, lives at 81 Quarry Avenue, Bebington Cheshire. He is awarded a Military Medal.

My connection to this family is through William's wife Mary Ann who our family knew as Granny Cunningham. Her sister Sarah Owen, nee Chetwood (1835-1925) was baptised at Overton but married in 1855 in Ellesmere to Henry Owen. They had one daughter Sarah Ann (1857-1921) Sarah Ann married George Galland in 1887 and had several children. The eldest Sarah Annie Galland was my grandmother. She was brought up by her grandparents and lived at Fair View, Penybryn and attended the Wesleyan Chapel in Acrefair. I knew about Matt and his emigration to Australia in 1887, and his brothers Tom and Jim and how Tom followed Matt out to Australia. I also know about their sister Maggie and her late marriage to Reuben Price, but I wasn't told about the eldest son William and his son by Polly Davies. Have you got any more details about them?
Many thanks for any help you can give me
