(født 8. august 1817 i Farsund, død 1875) var en norsk samfunns- og kulturforsker. Han tok teologisk embetseksamen i 1846, og var sogneprest i Eidsvoll fra 1869 til han døde i 1875. Han viet sitt liv til «folkelivets, navnlig studiet av det lavere folkelivs historie». Han regnes som grunnleggeren av faget sosiologi i Norge.
