My family history is fascinating for the fact that my Scottish family lived, worked and prospered not through luck, but through toil, hard work and tenacity. Part of my family's blood belongs to the South-West of Scotland - Robert the Bruce is said to hail from Ayrshire where some of our ancestors have been traced to! When you examine the history of the places where my ancestors came from and you consider their role in many landmark events in Scotland, and indeed in Britain's history, we would discover that we probably have a lot to be proud of! It was also discovered by chance, by Robert Edwards, University of Edinburgh, who researched the family for me, that one or two of the houses/homes referred to in his report, where my ancestors lived over 200 years ago, are still standing today - such as "Greenockdyke" farm. This offers a real connection between me and my past. |
