August 2014 Update
The Collett name has been passed down the Hand family for several generations but there has been some question about the origin of the name. Another piece to this puzzle was uncovered recently. Kenn Hand’s grandfather, George Hand (b1874) was married to Lavinia Marsh and Lavinia’s mother was Sarah A Collett. George and Lavinia included the Collett name in naming one of their children born in 1905 and the tradition was continued.
It was assumed that the name came from a Rev. William Collett (1864-1924) who was a very close friend of the family. Of course this new information doesn't disprove this possibility. It does raise another question; whether this Anglican priest was actually related. Although he married they didn't have any children so he could be a cousin but I have yet to find a connection.
I stumbled upon www.rawes.co.uk and added people and pictures to the family tree. The site had a picture of Jim Rawes in his youth as well as his father Arthur, who shows a clear resemblance to his grandson David Rawes.
While my 8 year old nephew, Logan Sawyer was visiting, he told me that his Uncle Scott showed him something about his great Grandfather’s service in WW1. A quick search uncovered the recruitment papers of Leslie Robert John Sawyer. Some further digging revealed Leslie’s children,or the siblings of Barry Sawyer Sr., that were missing from the family tree.
