A correspondent of the Sydney Empire, writing under date Tamworth, states that on Sunday, the 25th February,Sergeant Farnsworth received information from George White,a free selector on Myal Creek, that he had lost two horses. At ten o`clock that night the Sergeant, taking with him constable Becke and Mr.White, left Iverell, travelled all night, and towards daybreak reached a part of the Gwydir,or Big River. The place is known as Terrible Hollow,as is so inaccessible that the oldest inhabitant on the station near was unaware of its existence till a few years since. It is almost entirely surrounded by mountains or ranges, dark, rocky and perpendicular;but there is a narrow, circuitous defile, through which a river,by a succession of waterfalls, forces its way.To get to the only natural entrance and exit one has to ride down through a difficult pass for about two miles, and over frightful country. After getting through the entrence there opens out a grand amphitheatre. This is a mile in length, and half a m...
