We were very proud to attend the admission ceremony of Ian David Luder as Lord Mayor of London on Friday 7th November. It was a very solemn and fascinating occasion steeped in centuries old tradition. There were some amazing costumes and head wear amonst the participants and some fabulous creations on the heads of some of the female audience too. The Guildhall was very grand and after Ian had taken the oath and had been ceremonially presented with all the paraphernalia of office, mace, sword, purse and hat; he left the hall to be greeted with a might trumpet blast from four trumpeters; what a sound! We then went in a convoy of red buses to the West London synagogue for a short service. Ian is the 9th Jewish Lord Mayor in London's history, the first was in 1797. We know uncle Mike (z''l), like Susan and Peter and Auntie Frances would have been so proud of him. Ian himself could not stop smiling the whole day!
