10. JOHN WESLEY4 CURTIS (A. JOSHUA "A.J."3, ELI THOMAS2, CURTIS1) was born Bet. March 09, 1837 - 1838 in Humphreys County, Tennessee41, and died January 31, 1905 in Humphreys County, Tennessee. He married (1) AMANDA CATHERINE (HATCHER) CURTIS42 December 26, 1857 in Humphreys County, Tennessee, daughter of WILLIAM HATCHER and ELISABETH HATCHER. She was born October 25, 1839 in Humphreys County, Tennessee, and died 1884 in Humphreys County, Tennessee. He married (2) NARSISIE JANE "NURSE" (DAMESWORTH) CURTIS June 28, 1887 in Humphreys County, Tennessee, daughter of JOHN DAMESWORTH and NANCY DAMESWORTH. She was born 1858 in Tennessee43, and died March 20, 1934 in Humphreys County, Tennessee.

Curtis Cemetery on Highway 13 north of Waverly, Tennessee and his grave is marked with a Son's of the Confederacy marker.

Enlisted in Waverly, Tennessee 13 Dec, 1862 as a Sergeant b y Lt. McAdoo. Company Muster Roll dated 26 Feb 1863 show h im present in Captain Robertson Garret's Company, Tennessee Volunteers, Co. B, 24 Bn Sharp Shooters, CSA. He was listed as absent without leave on 27 June 1863 along with Corporal E. T. Curtis from Waverly and family legend has it that they returned home to take care of their families.

Listed as James W. on the 1870 Census, household number 33.

Farmer according to the 1880 census.

In the 1880 census he has an Ervin Curtis age 18, laborer , born in Tennessee and his wife, Lou, age 18, born in Georgia, living in his household.
