Cabrach - Death of the Oldest Inhabitant

On Friday night last week there passed peacefullaway Mr Wm, Stuart, the revered father of [Jean] Mrs [David] Scott, Hillock, at the advanced age of 93 years. Mr Stuart was born at Refreish, Glenlivet in June 1810, and received his education in his native parish. Before coming to Cabrach he had charge of the Glenlivet roads, and was considered a first-class workman. For a good many years he occupied the Grouse Inn, Cabrach, with the land attached to it, and dealt extensively in sheep. After retiring from business he went to reside with hid=s daughter, Mrs Scott, Hillock, who cared for him affectionately till his last moments. Mr Stuart was of a btight, cheerful disposition, and was respected by all with whom he came in contact. In religion he was a constant member of the Established Church and in politics he was a Conservative. Hs remains were interred in the Dounan Churchyard, Glenlivet, on Tuesday and there was alarge attendance of relatives and friends, among them being Captain J Duff Stuart of Vancouver, B.C., who is a nephew of the deceased [in point of fact Cpt Stuart was William's grandson and Jean Scott's nephew.]
