BiographyThe Netherlands missing all persons with events in this place (Zoek alle personen met gebeurtenissen in deze plaats)   In 1811 Napoleon decreed that all heads-of-house must register their family name, first choosing one if they did not already have one. This was chiefly for taxation purposes. Before that time, many Frisians relied on the patronym—name of the father—for identification. In Sye’s case, his father was Dirk, so Sye’s patronym was Dirks. In 1811 he registered the surname Wiersma. He was living in Marrum and had four children living at the time:   Marrum, deel 1 folio 30 Wiersma, Seye Dirks, Marrum Kinderen: Dirk 14, Jantje 12, Tjitske 6, Pieter 1 | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
