Biography

Annie Nombeko Nyati was a teacher by profession but her heart was in business. While accompanying her husband - Mtutuzeli Nyati - on his teaching work to Tabase, she decided to start a small shop. This shop grew as it was serving an important societal need.

She subsequently built Embekweni Store which she run for the rest of her life. She was not shy of hard work. When her business grew and there was a need for a big truck - she decided to learn how to drive a heavy duty vehicle.

She was one of the first woman to be awarded a heavy duty drivers license. She served her community with humility and integrity. She is remembered fondly by those who knew her. She taught her children independence, value of education and tough love. Her efforts lifted her family into middle class. Her contributions made a huge difference to the lives of ordinary people at Tabase Mission.
