Peggy was the second child born at Mangakino Hospital. She along with her elder brother Terry were the foundation pupils at Whakamaru School.
When Peggy was about 6 months old her Mum was running a bookies from home and had a phone call from the police to say they were doing a raid on bookies so move your stuff. Her Mum Doreen grab the table cloth off the table complete with $$ takings and folded it into the pram with Peggy on the top. A family friend then took Peggy for a walk while the police raided the property. They only found a few coins so no prosecutions made .
