Biography

NSW Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages, Baptism Registration Certificate No:- 482 Vol:- 128 shows that Martha, the female child of Nicholas Delany and his wife, Elizabeth Bailey of Emu Plains was Baptized on the 21st March 1825 at St. Mary's Cathedral and that the Sponsors were:- J. McCarthy Junr. proxy. Thos. Delaney.

NSW Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages, Death Registration No:- 9183/ 287 shows that on the 26th July 1906 at Lithgow Martha Sheringham [sic] a female, occupation:- domestic duties aged 82 years died.

Cause of Death :- [a] Malignant Disease of Stomach

[b] Exhaustion

Duration of last illness:- 3 months

Medical Attendant: Dr. A. R. Rice. He last attended Martha 26th July 1906

The certificate shows Martha's father was Delaney [Christian Name Unknown] and mother as Unknown.

The Informant on her death was:- J. Summons, son-in-law of Lithgow.

Registrar:- J.P. Rickards, registered at Lithgow 27th July 1906.

Further it shows that Martha was Buried 28th July 1906 in the Church of England Cemetery at St Marys by Dixon Hudson, Minister of Relegion

Witnesses:- George Turner & Harry Francis.

Undertaker :- J. Price & Son

Further is shows that Martha was born at Penrith, NSW and married John Sheringham [sic] at Penrith, NSW when she was aged abt 21 yrs and that the surviving children of the marriage were Harry 59, William 48, Elizabeth 50, Helen 45 & James 43. Martha was predeceased by 3 male & 1 female children. N.B. "Helen" should have read Eleanor or Ellen as she was known.

Marriages solemnized in the Parish of South Creek in the County of Cumberland N.S.W.

Marriage Registration No:- 296 Vol: 30 shows that John Sherringham of this Parish, Bachelor and Martha Delany of this Parish, Spinster were married in this Church by Banns with the consent of the parents of Martha Delany this 17th day of February in the year 1845 by R.K. Sconce, Chaplain.
