After the death of Nicholas, Elizabeth married three more times but does not appear to have had more children. They were: Mary Ann, who died a baby; John, a successful man, twice married; Thomas, our ancestor, born in 1812; James and William;Nicholas, who may have died young; Charles, whose hand was damaged as a child; Jane, like Charles, sent to an orphan school and then given into the charge of their big brother John; the twins Martha and Edward, Matthew, born in the same year as the twins but who faded from history(was he a triplet who died?); and lastly Clara. NB: Thomas was the ancestor of the authors of the book. My ancestor was"Martha". Elizabeth was a free settler who arrived age 16 on a ship called "Brothers" , in the company of Mr & Mrs John Blaxland on April 4 1807. She may have been a maid to Mrs Blaxland. She was only 18 when she marriied Nicholas. John Blaxland was a part owner of the ship "Brothers" and was the older brother of Gregory Blaxland of Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth fame. Nicholas and Elizabeth Had 12 children together and after Nicholas died in 1834 Elizabeth married again, 3 possibly 4 times. It appears that she had no more children. Elizabeth is something of an enigma as nothing is known of her before she arrived in Australia and nothing is known after her 3rd marriage to William Fitch in 1848. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
