William Delaney was born 9th January 1817 in Sydney NSW, fifth child of Nicholas Delaney and Ehzabeth Bayley.

The family moved to the Penrith area about 1820. William married Sarah Bradley in 1840 at Penrith NSW (the Granddaughter of First Fleeters Anthony Rope and Elizabeth Pulley). They had 2 children, Charles in 1841 and Mary 1843, both born at Penrith.

William and his family moved to the Tarana district about the early 1850's and settled at the locality known as Delaneys Falls on the Fish River about 4 miles from Tarana, NSW. William bought 30 acres at County Westmorland on the Rsh River for 75 pounds ($150) in September 1854 and in April 1856 he bought another acres with his brother John on the Fish River for 41 pounds ($82) as tenants in common.

William was a blacksmith and in addition to tilling a farm, which he pioneered, was the smithy for the early settlers William lied 1881 at Crown Ridge and Sarah his wife died 1901 at Tarana, NSW. He is buried in the Slippery Creek, Hazelgrove Cemetery.
