Biography

Elizabeth Ann George (nee Tweedale) was born 29th October,1952 at Nambour the second daughter of Graham & Betty Tweedale. Ann or Lily as she was affectionately known in childhood was an energetic and charming daughter who could equal any son in fun and mischief making.

Farming was very demanding and all the children were expected to play their part in bringing in the crop. Although it was a very intensive there were lots of happy moments. Ann thought it rather boring that her lot should be thrown in with Zucchinis and on discovering a rash on her hands gleefully announced to her parents that according to the doctor it was due to an allergy. Of course she attributed this to the powdery coating of the Zucchinis, however later that day Ann was massaging her skin with a delightful and fragrant cream. When her father took a closer look at this wonderful cream he stated that the source of the allergy was not the Zucchinis but the cream for which Ann had such a fascination. One can imagine the distain she felt when she had to forsake the cream as the real problem but continue picking the never-ending supply of Zucchinis!

Ann continued work on the farm but later took advantage of work experience in other fields. She worked for some time as a shop assistant in a delicatessen and later worked for a baker and pastry-cook. Cooking and hospitality were her hallmarks!

Her education was through home correspondence with mother as tutor and later was completed when she entered the Salvation Army Training College in 1971 in the Blood & Fire Session. She was a devoted Christian and never tired of discussing faith and God's grace. Her life was filled with hard work and thoughtful deeds for others - particularly for children - which was a mission jointly shared by her and Robert.

Ann was known as Elizabeth in the College and later chose to use this name rather than Ann. She married Robert 14th August 1972 at the Caloundra Methodist Church. The happy couple welcomed six wonderful children into their family - Julie, Wendy, Stephen, Ruth, Amanda and Timothy.

Elizabeth was a dynamic and energetic partner bringing much laughter and drive into the family. She was a good manager and operated an efficient household. Acknowledging her weak points she worked hard on herself and tried endlessly to live the Christian life as a model for her family.

From childhood she was always skilful with her hands. She enjoyed drawing and creative writing. She excelled at story-telling and had a great imagination. No wonder her daughters followed in teaching careers!

Her ambition was to be a good mother and to be involved in ministry helping people find the Saviour she loved. Although she was prevented from a wider inter-Church ministry through sickness there are many people including young lives who will feel special and blessed because of her enthusiasm and kindness.

Elizabeth, thankyou for your influence on us all! Servant of God, well done!

Elizabeth was called to Higher Service 15 June 2000 (about midday) and is survived by Robert and their six children including a grand-daughter, Grace.
