Biographyillegitimate: see marriage certificate under family According to Mary May (Orton), Edith Hogley told her that Martha (Stephen (James) Ainley's wife was illegitemate, and this was why when the Sandford Mill was sold, our line didn't get any money. This must relate to Martha, the daughter of James and Mary Jane Ainley, although her certificate suggests otherwise. It therefore must relate to Ellis Owen Sandford.According to Catherine the Sandford Mills were on the Dunford Road going out of Holmfirth, towards Sheffield. It took two generations to pass before the Sandfords would speak to our illegitimate line. Can't find an entry in the BDMs under Ellis or Owen for this period. 1851 Census of Wooldale (Kirklees): RO Fol 538, Enum Distr 5C, Sched No 70.
