Leslie Vine King

Len King says that Les' grandfather was William Vine who died in Manaia, Taranaki. His father was Ellis Bowler Vine. See page 31 of Molly's book.

 

Les moved to otorohanga at the age of 16 to work scooping stone from the river (Waipa?) using horse scoops. When WWI began he volunteered for service and was enlisted in the 1st Otago Regiment (4th Company) and was attached to the sniper's HQ in France. He was hospitalised just before the war's end.
