Biography
Christian Handreck resided in Weerangourt, Victoria, Australia. Occupation: Farmer. Christian and Anna had immigrated to Australia before their marriage, arriving on September 24, 1858. Both Werben and Dissen are located near Cottbus along the River Spree in Germany south of Berlin. Anna emigrated to Australia on the same ship as Christian, together with her parents Martine and Catherine (nee PUMPA) KOSCH and her brother (Christian) and sister (Marie). Christian and Anna were married at the Zion Lutheran Church, Byaduk, by Pastor CW Schurmann on 21st October 1875. At the time of their marriage, Christian was a farmer living at Weerangourt, which is located a few kilometers SW of Byaduk. Anna was living at Neukirch with her parents. Witnesses at the wedding included Christian?s brother (Mathes) and Traugott Mibus. Christian owned land at Weerangourt and later bought a property at Warrayure, east of Hamilton. On 26th September 1879, Christian was naturalised along with his father (Mathes) and his brother (Mathes). Christian and Anna raised 11 children, losing their 2nd son (Carl) at the age of 2 months. Johann Alfred, their 3rd son died at the age of 23 years. They were able to witness the 6 marriages of those children who married and to also know many of their grandchildren. Christian and Anna were members of the Zion congregation at Byaduk and later at Trinity congregation at Warrayure. Christian was also and elder of St Michael?s in Tarrington, and Trinity Warrayure schools committee. Christian died on 17th November 1935. Anna died on 22nd June 1937. They are both buried at South Hamilton Lutheran Cemetery.
