Curtis C. Caldwell

Curtis died of a heart attack while walking down North Oak Ave. in Mineral Wells, Texas, on a Wednesday afternoon at 3:30. His son Floyd was serving in Italy at the time of his death and his son Haskell was serving in Australia.

 

I find a C.C. Caldwell born Dec 1869 Texas residing in Spur City, Dickens Co., Texas next door to Susan (Turner) Cross and her spouse W.E. Cross. Susan is his step sister Mary's daughter.

 

In 1996 his son Haskell was still in the possession of the leather changer purse his father was carrying at the time of his death. It held less than $1.00 in change.

The body of Curtis Caldwell lied in state at the Baum Carlock Funeral Home.

By the early 1900's Mineral Wells was on its way to becoming a national health resort as bath houses and spas popped up all over the valley. People were coming by the hundreds every week to bathe in or drink the healing waters.
