Biography

Last name maybe spelled Mushatt or Muckle.

If we are correct, it appears that Mary Ann Muckle who married John Belk was the daughter of John and Frances Durham Mackelroy (various spellings) and was probably born about 1723 In the Baltimore Co., MD area. We have christening records for her oldest sister and 3 brothers. We don't have a christening record for Mary Ann, but then I guess we didn't look anymore after we found the ones we were looking for.

John Mackelroy (various spelling) gave John Belk land.

My family spells the name Muckleroy. One of my ancestors had a ferry in Oglethorpe Co., GA called Muckle's ferry.

John and Frances and their other children, with the possible exception of daughter Rachel who married Avington Felps/Phelps migrated together to Craven, Johnston, and Wake Co., NC.

Betty (email Address: Betty Stokes [jstokes@houston.rr.com])

N.C. wife Mary Ann Muckle (McElroy),who is buried Old Antioch Cemetery nine miles south of Monroe on the Landsford Road. and children: John, Jr.- ancestor to many in So. Carolina, Darling, James, Brittain, Frances(Montgomery)Nancy or Nicey (McCorkle), Gracie (Calvert). may have been more but these were only ones named in the will. Darling is in So. Carolina. Part of Mecklenburg NC became part of So. Carolina when the boundary was established. If anyone needs any history of this Belk family, I will gladly share. I have a huge history of the McElroy family which is my mother's side of the family thru her Mother's lineage.
