He entered a tract on the ridge between Big Rock Creek and Isaac's Creek, where Bethlehem Church now stands. The timber from 130 acres of his tract brought 450,000 in the 1920's. Samuel Austin was also known as "Lame Sam" and "Shoemaker Sam".   About 1836 he moved to Green County MO, near Springfield, MO.
