Biography
Arrived in Port Chalmers May 23 1874 age 7 with his family. when he became of working age Rufus worked as a labourer in Green Island. in 1893 Rufus was boarding in a house owned by Mary Smith which burned down in the early hours of the morning - all the inhabitants were unharmed. Rufus served as a juror in the 1896 Supreme Court case where the Matson murder case was being tried. by 1911 he had moved to Canterbury with his family and became an engine driver.
