Source citationsSource: Obituaries Date: Feb 16 2011 Citation text: Mr George Harry Thompson Williams passed away peacefully at Withybush Hospital recently at the age of 96. He lived in Gelliswick Road, Hakin. Originally from Portsmouth, he entered the Ministry of Defence as a boy at the age of 16 and had a long and distinguished career. He retired in 1977 as Officer in Charge of the oil fuel depot at Llanreath, Pembroke Dock. He served in the RNAD during the war in Alexandria Egypt, Haifa, Beruit, Tripoli and Eritrea. Since the was he has served in Trecwn, Plymouth, Upnor and Milford Haven Armament Depots. In his younger days he was trainer coach for Plymouth Albion, captain of Plymouth diving and swimming club where he met his wife of 61 years, Vera Walker. Talented artist and sculptor, one of his commissions being A Rams Head for a brewery in London. He was a devoted family man, father, grandfather and great granddad affectionately known as Pappy. He was predeceased by his wife Vera May Williams in 1997. The family left to mourn and principal mourners are Georgina and Billy Mills (daughter and son-in-law); Amanda and Andrew Bronhall (granddaughter and husband); Jenny and Tommy Turner (granddaughter and husband); Christopher and Susie Mills (grandson and wife); Gareth and Rhys Bromhall, Thomas, Harry and Jessie May Turner (great grandchildren); Kit Williams (sister-in-law); Frank and Keith (nephews); Jean and Jean Fitsell (nieces), plus dear friends Mary Hunt and Bill Cheshire. The funeral service was held at Parc Gwym Crematorium and was officiated by Rev Martyn Evans. The bearers were Gareth, Thomas, Rhys, Harry and Jessie May (great grandchildren). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
