Will (9 December 1760): WILL OF ARCH MACKLORY:

In the name of God, Amen

Johnston County, in the province of North Carolina. I Arch Mackelroy do ordain and make ths my last will and testament in manner and form following to say, first and principaly I give and bequeath my soul to the ands of Almighty God that gave it to me nothing doubting but that I shall receive the same again from the hands of my everlasting redemor at the day of the general resurrection and my body to the earth from which it came to be buried after a Christian decent manner at the discretion of my executors whom I shall hereafter appoint and as for what worldly goods it hath been pleased God to bestow on me, after my just debts and funeral expenses are paid I give and bequeath as follows:

 

Imprimis - I and bequeath to my beloved wife Catherine Mackleroy three Negroes named Cesar, Jane and Doll and one stallion called Bull and the plantation whereon I now live.

 

I give and bequeath to my beloved grandson Micajah Mackleroy the plantation and tract of land on Crabtree Creek whereon James Childres formerly dwelt and one Negro boy named Cook to him and his heirs forever.

 

I give and bequeath to my beloved son named Avonton Mackleroy my mill and all the lands adjoining to it as low as Blocks branch and one Negro boy named Buck to him and his heirs forever.

 

I give and bequeath to my beloved son John Muckleroy the plantation and part of the trct of land I now live on and after the decease of my wife Catherine and one Negro boy named Porter to him and his heirs forever.

 

I give and bequeath to my beloved son Andrew Mackleroy one hundred acres of land taken out of the tract I now live on lying on Marsh Creek and not coming nearer the plantation than the red hill and one Negro boy named Will to him and his heirs forever.

 

I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter, Salley, 100 acres of land out of the tract I now live on adjoining he land left to my son Andrew, at the lower end of his land, & 1 negro girl named Cloe, to her andher heirs forever, and also, 1 mare called Poll.

 

I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Catherine one hundred acres of land part of the tract I now live on and at place called the Indian Grove with the lands opposite thereto and on the south side of the creek to said lower end of the line and one negro girl named Moll and one young yearling creature to her and her heirs forever.

 

I give and bequeath to my beloved daughter Frankie the upper end of the Marshey Creek land called the Hog pen and a negro boy named Dick to her and her heirs forever.

 

My will and desire is that if it should please God any of my children above mentioned or my grandchild Macajah should die before they come to age, the boys twenty-one and the girls sixteen years or married or having lawful issue that then his or her part to be equally divided among the survivors.

 

My will and desire is that all the remainder of my estate both real and personal may be equally divided between my wife and children at the discretion of my executor for my desire that my estate may be inventoried but not appraised.

 

I do hereby appoint my beloved wife Catherine Mackleroy executrix and my brother William and my friend Andrew Hartsfield executor of this my last will and testament, revoking all other wills formerly by me made allowing this and no other to e my last will and testament. Thos. Hunter and Nathaniel Jones to be assisted dividing the estate. I witness whereof I do thereunto set my hand and seal this the 9th day of December 1760.
