BiographyFrom an article in the Washington Post or Evening Star about July 23, 1963 WASHINGTON --- Mark A. Heck, chief of the audit division of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. for the past 20 years, has retired. He will be succeeded by James J. Bogart, who has been duputy chief of the division since 1957. The new division chief, Mr. Bogart, also comes from Wisconsin, and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. He first joined the FDIC in 1940 as a field auditor, leaving the corporation in 1941 to enter military service. Upon completion of his active service, he joined the Internal Revenue Service as a special agent, serving there from 1946 to 1950. In that year he joined the oil and gas division of the DeKalb Agricultural Association in West Texas as chief accountant. He returned to FDIC in Washington in 1952, as an auditor, and became duputy chief in 1957. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ He retired in 1968 and he and wife Mary moved to Sarasota FL. ___________________________________________________________________________________________ From a document he typed on August 5, 1996: My parents were originally from the Chicago area moving to Madison in the early 1900s - at least before 1912, the year of my birth in Madison. Early family records, of which there were practically none, have no reference whatsoever to my father's family, though I do know that my Mother had two sisters and three brothers in the Chicago area. I remember my Mother's father once on a visit to Madison and then her sisters and brothers would appear occasionally. There were no "family" gatherings as we think of them today. Essentially my Father George Bogart and his family had migrated to the wilds of Wisconsin. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ James J. Bogart served with the 101st Airbourne Division (The Screaming Eagles) in the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment (The "5 - 0 - Wonders) and received the Bronze Star Medal for his work during World War II. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
