BiographyBIO: Jessie Matilda Carter (Turkelson -- Hoover), was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the daughter of James I. and Anna (Harlan) Carter. Jessie was a skilled cake decorator. In addition to providing her talent for special occasions for relatives, she often provided nursing home residents with birthday cakes. Rather than charging very much for her cakes, she accepted a mimimum amount, and with the proceeds she often purchased Bibles for her family and and other friends. Jessie led her family in daily devotions and looked after many people. Jessie married Edward Turkelson on October 24, 1933, and he preceded her in death in April of 1963, after close to 30 years of marriage. On May 20, 1978, she was united in marriage with Robert Hoover, and they have celebrated nearly 21 years of marriage. Survivors include her husband, Robert Hoover of of Blue River, two daughters, Betty Harwood of Janesville, and Beverly (Bruce) Larson of Hales Corners; three sons, Hilman Edward (Yvonne) Turkelson of Geneva, Illinois, Leslie (Janet) Turkelson of Verona, and Donald (Virgina) Turkelson of Grand Rapids, Michigan; one stepson, Gary Hoover of California; one brother, Donald (Beatta) Carter of Buffalo, Missouri, four sisters, Mildred Drake of Monroe, Barbara Elizabeth (Jack) Hoover of Richland Center, Marian (Charles) Ewers of Janesville, and Helen (Paul) Andrews of Medford, Oregon.
