Neoma Alt Tell me how you are related to Hansine Petrine (Madsen). I said in my description of her that her last name was Axelsen, but her father's name was Axel Madsen. At the time she was born, they were still using that crazy system in Denmark where the father's first name became the basis of the children's surnames. So confusing! It wasn't until between 1900 and 1910 that they started using standard surnames. She was a sister of my great grandfather, Lars Axelsen, who immigrated to the US in 1886.
