Sarah MorrisLooking for modern-day connections to the Walsh family in Ballingarrane, Cloyne, Co. Cork and further confirmation that this is indeed my Walsh family.
My 2nd great grandfather, Patrick Walsh (1821-1890), emigrated with his brother Maurice Walsh (1819-1878) from Co. Cork to St. Louis, Missouri, USA sometime before 1853 (when Patrick married Mary Knight in St. Louis).
My evidence for this family includes:
Names of Patrick's parents are James Walsh & Margaret Doyle (on Patrick & Mary's marriage record in St. Louis)
The headstone erected by Patrick for Maurice & Maurice's daughter Johanna identifies Maurice as a native of Co. Cork.
Irish baptismal records confirm both Patrick & Maurice Walsh as sons of James Walsh & Margaret Doyle, along with six other children, in Ballingarrane.
