The box that shows up with a persons information has a button in the bottom right corner titled edit.

If you just open the family tree section where you have blue boxes for males and pink for females there should be an edit button at the bottom of each box as well.

To collect basic information about people facebook is a great resource and it generally provides a picture of that person, too.
