Angela Sherry Hello Ron!

My name is Angela Sherry, a mature student in the United States currently researching and writing a paper on the first two parties of boys to be sent from the United Kingdom to Fairbridge Farm School, Pinjarra in 1913. I am in the process of researching the last young man who happens to be John Henry Thomas, who has certainly been the most elusive of them all. I just got his birth certificate from England and I know who his parents were, when they died and where they were buried, etc. and I know you are researching the same family because everything matches.

The object of this exercise is to ascertain whether Kingsley Fairbridge's vision was a success by discovering how the boys fared after leaving the farm school and the social, economic, psychological factors that may have shaped their destiny. I do not know what happened to John (Jack) Thomas after he attempted to make a success of his own land at Belka via Merredin in Western Australia. I do, however, know that his sister, Alice Maud Thomas also emigrated to Western Australia in the early 1920s, married, and had two children.

Are you able to help me and point me in the right direction as far as John (Jack) is concerned? Did he marry and have children? Did he stay in Western Australia? Did he join the army during WW2? (I could not find a service record for him). Are they any photographs of him available?

Many thanks for listening and I hope to hear from you soon.

Best wishes,

Angela Sherry
