Gilad Japhet

Founder and CEO
Gilad Japhet’s background in hi-tech portrays his drive for excellence. Mr. Japhet managed BRM Technologies' anti-virus research unit, acquired by Symantec. In this role he supervised the analysis of computer viruses and developed algorithms for defeating them. He then played a key role in BackWeb Technologies, an internet infrastructure company, first as product architect and later as the head of product management. His contribution was instrumental to the company's successful IPO on NASDAQ. Working out of the company's HQ in San Jose, California, he was personally responsible for the company's strategic accounts, and was named twice the company's MVP of the year. Mr. Japhet was also head of product management in startups SpearHead Technologies and Picatel Systems, prior to founding MyHeritage.com.

Mr. Japhet is an experienced genealogist, bringing MyHeritage.com a unique combination of vision, passion and expertise in professional software development and genealogy. His dream lies behind the inception of MyHeritage.com.

Mr. Japhet holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, graduating summa cum laude with President Award honors.

He is married with 3 cute children.

Yuval Ben-Galim

EVP of R&D & Operations
Yuval Ben-Galim brings to MyHeritage 15 years of leadership experience in the high-tech industry. Yuval combines his strengths in people management with unparalleled understanding of web technologies to spearhead new product developments and synergize company operations at MyHeritage.

Before joining MyHeritage, Yuval was Chief Operations Officer at leading grocery price comparison website mySupermarket, where he was responsible for building and managing the entire R&D division and for cross-departmental management of technical operations – from software engineering, QA and IT to customer support. Prior to mySupermarket, Yuval headed R&D operations at ProSight (now owned by Oracle), where his management skills, technical knowledge and excellence in product development proved a key factor in maturing the company for its acquisition in 2005.

Yuval holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in computer science from the Hebrew University, and was the recipient of the prestigious annual President’s Award in 1994.

Applying his 'live life to the full' philosophy in his spare time, Yuval enjoys trekking, camping and world travel with his wife and 5 children.

Uri Gonen

VP of Product Management
Uri Gonen is an expert in complex software architecture design, product development and product management with over 12 years of experience. An original member of BackWeb Technologies (NASDAQ: BWEB), an Internet infrastructure company, Mr. Gonen was a key contributor to its successful IPO. Prior to BackWeb, Mr. Gonen held key positions in Israeli incubator and venture firm BRM Technologies where he was involved in software development and management and business development and took an active part in building new Internet infrastructure startups.

Mr. Gonen is a graduate of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and holds a B.A. in Computer Science and Mathematics and an M.A. in Computer Science.

Eran Dvey-Aharon

VP of R&D
With over a decade's experience in project management and back-end technology management, Eran is an expert in technical design, high-scalability systems and product performance.

His ability to transform technology concepts into first-class scalable consumer products, as demonstrated during his previous role as product manager at leading grocery price comparison website mySupermarket, provides Eran with a significant role in driving company growth at MyHeritage.

Eran has a solid background within the high-tech community, having previously held team leadership and software engineering positions at start-up companies such as ProSight and global multinationals such as Intel. Dealing with huge database systems has become second nature to Eran, and there's no performance challenge that he can't tackle.

Eran holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion institute of Technology.

An avid basketball player and keen footballer, it's all action for the dad of 3!

Ran Michnowski

VP of Operations
Ran Michnowski is in charge of the Customer Support, IT and Translation departments.

Mr. Michnowski brings to MyHeritage an unrivaled combination of efficient working methodologies combined with a non-compromising high level of standards.

Many of these skills were acquired during his work as a team leader in ELBIT SYSTEMS (NASDAQ:ESLT) where he integrated projects for military industries.

As a team leader in ClearForest he was in charge of integrating the company's products into the systems of industry leading companies such as the Dow Chemical Company (NYSE:DOW), Eastman Chemical (NYSE:EMN) and Bloomberg.

Mr. Michnowski holds a B.Sc. in Information systems engineering from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology.

Ran Peled

Chief Architect
Ran Peled is an expert in mission-critical and enterprise software development with over 22 years of experience.

As Chief Architect and Development Manager at Proficiency, a leading provider of CAD interoperability solutions, he led the company's infrastructure development group. In this role he was also a driving force in introducing Agile Development methods into the organization.

Prior to Proficiency, Mr. Peled held several management and software architecture roles at BackWeb Technologies (NASDAQ: BWEB), an Internet infrastructure company, where he led integrations with product partners SAP and TIBCO, and architected key components within the product line.

Prior to BackWeb, Mr. Peled held different positions in Advanced Technologies LTD and the Israel Defense Force, and was involved in the development of the next generation of a sophisticated Command, Control and Intelligence system for the Israeli Intelligence.

Mr. Peled holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Physics from the Bar Ilan University in Israel.

Nir Sharony

Senior Director of Engineering
Nir Sharony's prodigious skills in product development have been instrumental to the success of MyHeritage.com, which he joined in 2004 as the company's second employee.

Nir Sharony is proficient in advanced programming methodologies and has served in senior development roles in RADVISION (NASDAQ: RVSN), OmniSky (acquired by Earthlink) and Picatel Systems. He brings to MyHeritage.com over 13 years of experience in Design Patterns, Object Oriented Design and advanced programming methodologies.

Mr. Sharony is a graduate of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and holds B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science. Mr. Sharony co-represented the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the 2003 International Computerized Trading Agent Competition, and independently in 2004, winning accolades for his achievements.

Shmulik Albo

Creative Director
Shmulik Albo is responsible for the graphic design of the MyHeritage.com product line, including its Web site, user interfaces and mobile applications.

Mr. Albo brings to MyHeritage.com 10 years of experience in analysis, design and production of complex user interfaces for a wide range of platforms. Prior to joining MyHeritage.com, Mr. Albo served as Art Director in Puzzlehead Ltd., where he specialized in the design of graphical user interfaces. Market leading software products of leading hi-tech companies such as Amdocs, NICE Systems, Comverse and Actimize are based on graphical user interface design by Mr. Albo. His versatile design portfolio includes professional Web applications currently in use by companies such as Bell and British Telecom.

Mr. Albo is a graduate of the Ascola School of Arts & Design, with a major in Visual Communication Design.

Caroline Cohen

PR and Brand Manager
Caroline is responsible for the strategic brand development and management of global PR campaigns at MyHeritage. Having worked with internationally acclaimed start-ups and venture capital firms, Caroline has a proven background in positioning companies as world leaders.

Passionate about marketing and communications, Caroline advocates a holistic approach that embraces both social media and traditional outreach methods.

Prior to MyHeritage, Caroline worked at PR agency Koteret as Director of International Communications - advising technology companies and organizations how to grow overseas. Within 2 years, Caroline grew the department into the largest international PR service in Israel. Prior to this Caroline was a founding member of the London-based PR agency Ballard Associates (now Grayling International) where she represented global financial institutions, VCs and start-ups.

Caroline holds a BA from Loughborough University in Economics, Politics and German. A mum of two, Caroline enjoys sports and world travel.

Daniel Horowitz

Chief Genealogist
Daniel brings over 20 years' experience in the genealogy field to the team. As Chief Genealogist, his deep understanding of the needs of today's family history enthusiasts provides key contributions in the areas of product development, customer support and public affairs.

Daniel enjoys a multi-faceted role at MyHeritage. Also heading the company's Translation department, he has been instrumental in increasing MyHeritage's global support to 36 languages.

Prior to MyHeritage.com, Daniel was an educator in the family history project "Searching for My Roots", where his work received many awards in Venezuela and in Israel. He is a very experienced genealogist, researcher and lecturer and holds board level positions with a number of genealogical societies and organizations. Mr. Horowitz holds a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering with a specialization in Education & Management of Educational Institutions.

A power genealogist himself, in his leisure time Daniel enjoys the outdoors with his wife and two children.

Saul Klein

Board Member
Saul is a Partner at Index Ventures and is also Founding Partner of The Accelerator Group. He currently sits on several boards including Lovefilm, GlassesDirect, Moo, Songkick, Snaptalent and Dopplr.

Saul brings over a decade of experience successfully building and exiting companies in the US and Europe as both an entrepreneur, seed investor and operator. Most recently he was the co-founder and original CEO at what is now Lovefilm International and part of the executive team at Skype.

Saul loves working with seed and early stage companies and is a passionate believer that Europe is only scratching the surface in terms of its potential for entrepreneurs to create great startups. To support this vision, last year he started Seedcamp and OpenCoffee Club, which is now in over 80 cities around the world.

He lives in London, dreams of Cape Town and Cochin and is happily married with two kids under two.

Adam Valkin

Board Member
Adam Valkin is a partner at Accel Partners.

Adam has worked in the Internet industry for fourteen years. He has held venture, entrepreneurial and corporate positions during this time with a focus on consumer internet services and digital media. Adam was most recently Global Head of Digital Media & New Business at Endemol - the world's largest television production company - where he was responsible for the company's digital strategy and activities in 30 countries.

Prior to that he spent nine years at London-based venture capital firm Arts Alliance where he led or supported a number of investments in Europe, Israel and the US including LOVEFiLM, Propertyfinder, Smartjog, Prepay Technologies, Daylife and Kenshoo. Adam was also co-founder and interim CEO of LOVEFiLM, Europe's largest online DVD subscription service and co-led the consolidation of the UK's largest private investor club, Pi Capital.

Before Arts Alliance, Adam held management positions in the US at barnesandnoble.com and Firefly Network. Adam has a degree in economics from Harvard University.

Aviv Raiz

Board Member
Aviv Raiz is a member of the Israeli business community and is the lead investor behind several successful startups. Mr. Raiz is the president and sole owner of Eurotrust Ltd., a well known foreign exchange company which has some of Israel's foremost companies as its clients. For the past 10 years Mr. Raiz has invested in several high tech, biotech and real-estate companies, vastly diversifying his investment interests.

Mr. Raiz holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from the Tel Aviv University and an MBA in Finance.

Yuval Rakavy

Board Member
Yuval Rakavy is a technology guru of renown in the Israeli hi-tech industry.

Mr. Rakavy served as Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at BRM Technologies. For over a decade, he played a central role in the R&D and product architecture of Check Point Software Technologies, BackWeb Technologies and numerous other startup companies.

Mr. Rakavy is particularly effective in identifying cutting edge development tools and integrating them into a company's technological plan at an early stage. His creativity is matched by his uncanny sensitivity to the technological needs of startup companies.

Mr. Rakavy studied Computer Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel.

Simon Levene

Advisory Board Member
Simon Levene is a former partner at Accel Partners and is currently a partner at Index Ventures.

Mr. Levene joined Accel having spent over a dozen years in the Internet, media and communications industries. His areas of expertise include consumer, Internet (media and infrastructure), software and services.

Immediately prior to Accel, Mr. Levene served for four years as Managing Director of Corporate Development at Yahoo!, where he was a key thought leader in the company's international strategy. Earlier, whilst living in silicon valley, he co-founded @Home's international operations, and as Director of Corporate Development at Excite@Home, was jointly responsible for strategy and business development outside North America.

Mr. Levene graduated from Cambridge University, was a Choate Fellow at Harvard's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Prof. Sara Japhet

Advisory Board Member
Sara Japhet is a distinguished Professor Emeritus of Bible at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She specializes in the history of the biblical period, the literature and religion of the Bible and the history of Jewish exegesis. She was awarded the prestigious Israel Prize in 2004 for her accomplishments in Biblical research, and in May 2006 she was elected President of the World Union of Jewish Studies.

Prof. Japhet is a member of various scientific associations and a member of the directorate of the World Association for Jewish Studies. She has published extensively, several books and many articles, and is a member of various scholarly organizations. She has been a visiting professor at the University of California in Berkeley, Harvard University and the Jewish Theological Seminary. She was also a Fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford University and at the Center for Advanced Judaic Studies in Philadelphia.

At the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, she completed her M.A. summa cum laude in biblical studies, and received her Doctorate with distinction in 1973. She was appointed lecturer, and subsequently senior lecturer, associate professor, and full professor. In 1984-1986 she served as Head of the Bible Department, and afterwards Head of the Institute for Jewish Studies. In 1997-2001, she served as the Director of the Jewish National and University Library.

Craig Sherman

Advisory Board Member
Craig Sherman was the CEO of Gaia Online, the anime roleplaying community.
Previously, Mr. Sherman was COO of MyFamily.com, where he helped grow the company from $23 Million to $150 Million in sales. During his tenure, Craig helped re-focus the company on its consumer subscription business and grew that from 200,000 to over 2 million subscribers, taking the company from significant losses to profitability. He joined MyFamily.com through the company's acquisition of ThirdAge Media where he was Executive Vice-President and General Manager.

Mr. Sherman has also held senior management positions worldwide. As Regional Vice-President of American International Group (AIG), Mr. Sherman ran AIG's marketing and e-business efforts in Japan and Korea resulting in over six billion dollars in annual revenues. He also quintupled the growth rate of his division and managed Japan's number one insurance website.

Prior to his work at AIG, Mr. Sherman was President and CEO of Cendant Japan where he launched the joint venture company, grew it to 500,000 paying customers and achieved operating profits ahead of schedule.

Mr. Sherman graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University.
