I put someone in the wrong place on my online tree. What should I do?

If you want to do any of the following things:

  • Move a person or a branch in your tree from one place to the other.
  • Attach a child to his natural parents and adopting parents.
  • Display a marriage between two family members who are already in your tree.

You will need to export your tree to our software, Family Tree Builder.

Open a browser and log into your Family Site on MyHeritage.com, then go to the Family Tree tab > Manage Trees page in your Family Site. Click the Export GEDCOM link. Here you should choose the tree you would like to export, and in which language. You will receive an email with a link to download the tree. Please note that you can only export a GEDCOM file from a family site if you are logged in as the site manager of that site.

Keep in mind that the GEDCOM file will not include your photos. When you import it back to the site later on, you will need to tag your photos again.

Next, download and install Family Tree Builder from here:

http://www.myheritage.com/family-tree-builder

Once you have the program installed,  double click on the file you exported to open it.

You can now carry out the desired operation on your tree. The following FAQ will provide you with detailed instructions on this issue:

When you are finished, you need to export your tree back to the online Family Site:

In Family Tree Builder, Go to File > Export GEDCOM.

Now go to your family site.

Click on Family Tree > Import GEDCOM.

Browse your computer to find the GEDCOM you just created.

Click upload and that’s it!
