How do I make sure all my family site information is kept private?

How do I make sure all my family site information is kept private?

Family sites at MyHeritage.com are automatically protected with privacy settings that prevent guests from viewing sensitive information about living family members in the family tree, such as first names and email addresses.

In the event that the default privacy settings are not strict enough for you, the steps below will help you make your site and content completely private.

Make your MyHeritage.com profile private

Click on My Profile in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

Click to view photo in full size

Click the button labeled Edit Account.

Click to view photo in full size

Make sure that all 5 check boxes are NOT selected.

Save changes.

Make your family site private

Go to your family site and select Settings > General.

Scroll down to the bottom half of the screen:

Click to view photo in full size

Select No under ‘List your Web site in the Site Center’ and click Save.

Click on the Settings > Privacy tab and select Private Site.

Click to view photo in full size

Save changes.

Make your family tree private

To ensure the complete privacy of the family tree go to Family Tree > Manage Trees and click on “Edit tree settings” for each family tree listed.

Put tooltip here

Uncheck the boxes labeled “Make this family tree public in the Genealogy Center” and “Enable Smart Matching”.

Save changes.

Make photo albums private

In order to make your photo album completely private, please take the following steps:

  1. Go to the Photos & Videos page. Click on the album you want to make private.

  2. Next, click More actions, and choose ‘Change album details’.
    Put tooltip here

  3. Uncheck the ‘Make album public’ check box.
    Put tooltip here

Now your album will be viewable ONLY by yourself and your invited site members.

* The Recent Photos album is automatically created from the photos you upload. It doesn’t have the option to set as private because it’s not included in the public member’s center at MyHeritage.com.
