Surname - Trondsen, Throndsen, Trunsen, Tronsen, or variations

Some of my relatives migrated from Norway to the USA between 1860 and 1890.  I have located records of my great grandfather's brother who migrated to California.  He married in America and had four children, but haven't been able to got any further so far, probably because of the name variations.  My grandfather in Australia went by the name, Harry Thompson, but his name given at birth was Harald Trondsen and his father was Harald Throndsen, but his birth name was Harald Halvorsen (son of Halvor).  He changed his surname to his father's surname when he was christened.

We also have a story in our family that some other relatives from Norway migrated to the USA probably during the same period but went to Utah.  I haven't been able to prove this story as yet.  Can anyone out there help me?

Would love to hear from anyone who may be able to help me with my research.
