My Grandfather John Joseph Brett was born in the Waterford Union Workhouse on april 6th, 1903. I have the birth certificate and there is no father’s name given. His mother is listed as Anastacia and is described as "a servant" with an address on John Street. Unfortunately I do not know what house/property she lived in. My Grandfather had a Sister who was older not sure how much older and her name was Katty Brett.

I had some one do a bit of research and this is what was found so far.

"I have found Anastatia Brett in the workhouse 1911 aged 41 born Waterford as opposed to Co Waterford.

Ive had a few of mine in the workhouse .....usually a sad story and could be there for a multitude of reasons.

I have also found a death cert index for same 1943.....a couple of years out but as she is illiterate that would be fine.

A lot of worhouses were burnt to the ground by the I.R.A. during the war of independence.....though I will enquire about records for Waterford."

The death certificate for this Anastatia Brett was purchased and this is what it stated:

"received a copy of entry of Anastatia's death.

She died at 70 of Myocarditis (heart?)

Present at death was George Brett a nephew........which gives us something to work on.

Anastatia was a wardmaid........... obviously she was in this institution for many years."

I was wondering if anyone had any information or direction on where to find more information.

I would like to thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Thank You
