My Great Grandfather Thomas Nilson was born in Oregrund, Sweden between 1844 and 1851.
He ended up in New Zealand married to an Australian of English descent. They had 13 children and now have many descendants.
When Thomas arrived in New Zealand he changed his name from Nilson to Nelson. He was married using the name Nilson in 1873 but by the birth of his first child in 1875 he had changed it to Nelson
I know nothing of his life in Sweden and what age he emigrated or why. I am trying to locate name change records to at least get his parents names.
I am not really sure where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated
