My daughter was married to husband no 1 had 2 children and then divorced and married a man who had 3 children..The two boys are still her children but you have to go to her ex-husband to find them Why aren't they with her.and why does it have her 3 step children as hers

Might be stupid question but there were huge problems in my mothers family when grandma remarried and they just assumed their step fathers name and they actually did not exist Big trouble with the wills.

Hi Anne,

I'm a newbie but have been puzzling over this problem too.  As I only have the basic package I don't know whether the paid ones give more choices with parentage but on the assumption they don't it's certainly an issue that needs addressing!  Following the User Guide instructions are all well & good but once a couple are defined as married on the tree you can't detach just one of them as a child's natural parent!

The only way I have found to do this is to give your daughter another spouse & then attach an existing child or children but state that the 'new' parents are the natural ones (assuming you have just added her previous spouse) & the existing ones are adopting, that way the children still appear on the family tree but a new tree is also created for the previous relationship complete with any of your daughter's ancestors already entered.

Not ideal I know but hope this helps!

Thank you Tarina. I have a paid account but instructions are just as bad. It is a pity as I would like to get more envolved with the family tree as I am the youngest of my generation and I am 71 so I have no people to ask about the past. Not sure where you are from but if there is anything I can do for you in Australia please ask. Cheers Anne
