Edward

Edward's early years 1820 - 1846 remain a mystery despite decades of research by many descendant cousins on several branches of this family tree.

Seeking his parents names - they left him and at least one sister orphans in the DC VA area betw 1820 and 1835.  I have been able to confirm he is not James Edward Dawes due to sister Mary Ann Margaret being born much less than 9 months before our Edwards birth month and year.

Allegedly apprenticed to shoe maker or priest who mistreated him so he ran away to KY ending up in IL.

Thanks  - Eric

He is in the 1860 census, do you have that info? albeit it is later than the years you are looking for, he is listed there as a physician. Married a Delila Thrasher, June 30, 1852, McLeansboro, IL. [Info from ancestry]. you probably already have this. Did find the following from: The Inventory of the county and town archives of Maryland: Montgomery Countyappointed an Edward Dawes, Henry Griffith, Baker Waters, and J. L. Trundle as commissioners in 1838. Found on ancestry.com. taken from the History of Western Maryland, I. 665. http://search.ancestry.com/browse/bookview.aspx?dbid=25862&iid=dvm_LocHist010769-00127-0&rc=2029,2442,2281,2491;2277,2443,2487,2492&pid=247&ssrc=&fn=edward&ln=dawes&st=g A dictionary of welch and english names, this goes onto the next page.http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/BookView.aspx?dbid=28527&iid=dvm_LocHist012278-00122-0 Finally, there is an Edward Dawes, married an Ann Pierce July 22, 1815 in Washington, DChttps://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/1KXL-6GJ/p1

Thank you Betty,

I do have the info for later years and am pretty sure the Edward mentioned in Montgomery County is quite senior in years to our Edward...  I don't have ancestry at home- so couldn't read your link.

Best regards,

Eric
