I live in Carlisle, a city that is right on the border of Scotland.  in the past there were lots of families that went raiding across the border from both sides, they were called "Rievers" and recently all the names have been shown on a monument and the name of Watson is amoungst them.

I was born in Kent, a southern English county, and Watson was my mother's maiden name.  I have traced my family back four generations and you might like to know the my G,G,G,G, grandfather was a sail maker in Chatham shipyard and his son was a mastmaker.

Hi David,

I am interested in where this monument is..My Watsons came from Jedburgh and some graves and monument to part of the family can be found in Jedburgh Abby. Their decendants were all over the place, including Edinburgh. There were also Watsons in Ross and Cromerty, Scotland in the 1700's....I have a David Watson born late 1800's and tons of Georges...Regards

I suppose it was a bit misleading to call it a monument.  The city built a new subway to the castle and all the names of the rievers are let into the floor.

There is also a replica of the Curse Stone.  The Bishop of Glasgow had the original carved and cursed all the families who raided over the border,  some of the locals blamed the big flood on its existance.
