Searching for my father

I found out a year ago, that the father who raised me was not my birth father.  I am searching for him now. He may have passed away, although I don't know for sure.. He would be in his 80's now, I believe, if he is still alive. He is supposed to have gone to New York State in '56 or '57 after leaving Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  His name is Ernest Gomm. I'm desperate for info and haven't been able to get anywhere with my search. He was born in the UK. Does anyone out there have ANY kind of info on my dad?

HI Laura--I did a little search based on the info you put in your request.  This may be a good place for you to start

http://www.traceyourfamily.co.uk/files/ConciseHistory.doc

You can download this to your computer and print it up, it has so much info on Gomms' from UK.  Best of Luck to you dear.

I live in the United States but I look for info like this alot myself doing our family tree and there are a few adoptions so we know how you feel.  Also, there are places where you can pay to do a search, check them out good first though.  Most of them, if you pay with your paypal account and you try the site out right away and let them know within the first twentyfour hours or so they will refund the money if you don't like the subscription.  Even if you get one that has a yearly fee and you don't have to renew it the following year if didn't want to.  It is worth a try.

Good luck.
