My late grandmother told me that her mother was known as Agnes not Agatha. She was married twice, first to my great grand father George Henry McDermid then to Brian Jocelyn Weller. Agnes and George had two daughters, my grandmother Gwendolyn and her sister Jean. My grandmother always spoke very highly of her father and step father but not of her own mother. The McDermid family came from Scotland and settled in Dunedin. Gwen married Maurice Francis Malone my grandfather.

the dates are way out and full name of this mary griffen is "Mary Griffen Lobby" - the father of our Mary Griffen was Maurice with the French spelling.

I am still working through the CURREEN family tree. I have some notes which was given to me. The notes are written by Gwen Malone. I know that she had written a book - "The Song Never Dies" but is unpublished. I am still nailing it down, I believe that they came to NZ after their youngest daughter Elizabeth was born in 28 September 1869 in Dongeal. The first set of twins - Ellen Maud Curreen born 13/01/1884 and Mary Ethel Curreen born 15/01/1884. Ellen and Mary were raised by Mary's parents.
The second set of twins - Annie Agnus Lavina Curreen born 06/11/1886 and William Curreen born 6/11/1886. Annie and William were raised by Peter and Mary Curreen and that Elizabeth Peter and Mary youngest daughter help raised them too.

I'm interested in the story of William and Mary CUREEN and their twins. My husband is a descendant of Mary Ethel CURREEN. I can't seem to find any records on the BDM site for NZ regarding the 2nd set of twins and was unaware of their existence. I think that Mary Curreen (nee Robertson) may have remarried in 1894 but I cannot find any further records for William. My mother -in-law says that her Grandmother Mary Ethel talked of her Father being a Professor of Music. I'm not sure if she was referring to William or possibly a step-father or even her Grandparent. What an interestingly confusing story!! I have pictures of Mary Ethel if you are interested.

I have birth certificate for Elizabeth Curreen stating that she was born in the district of Castlefin in the union of Strabane in the county of Donegal Ireland 28th September 1869 not born at sea like your grandmother thought. I look forward in receiving the photos.
