My mother and her sister were adopted many years ago and she has exhausted all avenues of getting a true birth certificate. She is now 72 years old and her mother has passed on also. Her sister (also now passed on) had a birth certificate of her own but my mother has never had one. The adoption was private - she was born in Chicago, IL. If anyone has any information on how to fulfill my Mom's wish of an actual birth certificate, I would appreciate any help. thank you.
I noticed your post is almost 3 years old and I hope it's not too late for your mother, but as you say she was born in Illinois I have some good news for you. As of January 2010 Illinois has changed it's laws on adoptee's obtaining copies their original birth certificates. Go to the website below and it should give you the info you and she need to get that precious piece of paper.
