I am researching my family tree and am looking for information on Lillian May roff. I would like to know who her parents where, aas I don't seem able to find them anywhere.
I've done my sums and the comment that Lillian worked as a nurse at Ballarat Hospital in 1928 cannot be correct ,as she married Tom in Barellan in 1924.
My source was a letter written to my Mum in 1991 by a cousin(?. The cousin commented that Margaret (Veal/Trembath) Grenfell was her Great-grandmother and would be my Mum's great-great grandmother ). Isla lived in Castlemaine. She may have meant 1918, which would be appropriate age-wise.
Hi. My name is Bill Diebert and Lillian May Roff was my grandmother. I am the second son of her daughter Eva May Diebert (nee Trembath).
Lillian was born 1 June 1901. Married Thomas Henry Trembath on 2 April 1924 at the Methodist Church in Barellan, and died 17 June 1970.
Lillian's mother was Mary Jane Roff ( I have seen reference to the name as Roffo ). Lillian was raised (?)/cared for by "Granny" Holland and came from the Ballarat area. She worked as a nurse at Ballarat Hospital in 1928.
She came to Barellan, with her daughter Alma Jean ( my Auntie Jean ), to work as a nurse at the Barellan "Private" Hospital. In Barellan she met and married Tom Trembath.
My mother was her first born with Tom. My mum's knowledge was simply that Lillian had a "father unknown". She seemed to think that Lillian was a Jewish girl who fell pregnant "out-of-wedlock" and was exiled from her family and looked after by "Granny" Holland.
She was a really fine lady.
If I come across any further information I will let you know, Like-wise I'd appreciate the same.
